Draw one object three ways

Choose a simple household object and give yourself three small areas on a page. Draw its outline in the first, its largest dark and light shapes in the second, and one detail in the third.

Keep the object in the same position while you compare the drawings. Notice which version tells you something different about its shape.

Date the page and add a sentence about what you noticed. The exercise is a record of looking, not a test of producing three polished pictures.
